Hi Ashley,
As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy today, we face a reality where an incoming administration threatens many of the gains he fought for, especially in the areas of racial justice, economic equity, and education.
Dr. King's vision was radical, not just because it called for racial equality, but because it demanded justice in all its forms. Today, we continue that fight, as Black, brown, immigrant, LGBTQIA+, and lower-income communities are especially vulnerable. Civil rights protections, health care, child care, and public education are all at risk. Our children's and our children's children's educational futures demand of us the same political and moral courage that Dr. King constantly preached. "Leaders of sound integrity. Leaders not in love with publicity, but in love with justice. Leaders not in love with money, but in love with humanity."
At AQE, we're fighting for a world that is better for our children - public schools that are safe and supportive for students and their families, regardless of poverty, immigration status, race, gender, housing, or disability. We're committed to ensuring that under-resourced schools and communities receive all the support necessary to flourish.
As we honor Dr. King's legacy today, let us not simply remember his words, but live by them. We must hold our state legislators accountable for protecting our children's future and demand funding and policies that protect our communities from harm. Every call, every email, every moment we push back makes a difference.
The fight for justice and equity is not just a dream, it's a movement. Together,we must continue to build the future Dr. King actively worked towards - one where every child has the education they need to thrive.
Let's get to work.
