Dr. Randy Cale's Terrific Parenting: Exhausted brains, anxious kids: The sleep crisis parents can still fix

Let's start with a simple truth most parents already know but often avoid enforcing: children and teens today are profoundly sleep-deprived. Not mildly tired. Not "could use a little more rest." Neurologically depleted. And while schools, schedules, and stress all play a role, one factor towers above the rest — screens in the bedroom and the absence of firm, consistent limits around sleep. This is not a minor lifestyle issue. It is one of the most significant neurological and emotional risk factors facing children today. The Modern Sleep Crisis in Children and Teens Current sleep research is remarkably consistent. Children […]

Questions and answers from the 'Car Doctor'

Q. I am looking for a used car and even with electric vehicles falling out of favor, I am thinking of a used EV. Is that a good idea? A. Electric vehicles are not for everyone. Charging a EV without home charging can be a challenge for some. As an example where I live the nearest fast charging stations are 25 miles away. If you can charge at home or work, living with an EV is quite effortless. Used electric vehicles can offer lower maintenance costs, lower fuel/energy costs, and in some cases even a better driving experience. The good […]

Siobhan Connally's Ittybits & Pieces: One for all

It's not that I hate surprises, it's just that I tend to feel better when they aren't … you know … around. Surprises that so "lurk" are usually not in the form of a few dollars you may have left in a pocket before the wash, or the delight of an adult-presenting child who comes back from college on a random weekend just to bask in the refrigerator light of "home."
