Hi Ashley, Late last night, Governor Hochul announced a broad budget agreement — and although there were some specifics, when it comes to the Foundation Aid formula, the details are still not clear. However, based on what we know, there's a real possibility that public schools across are at serious risk of losing significant funding due to Foundation Aid formula changes. But the budget isn't done until it's done. Reach out to the Governor's office and legislators as soon as you can today and tell them the final budget must NOT result in any schools getting less Foundation Aid funding than they would under the current formula. Urge Our Leaders to Protect Public Education Funding

Governor Hochul is delaying key funding decisions for public education, and we need your help to make sure our schools and their communities get the support they need. Email your representatives now, calling on them to prioritize public education in their final budget. First off, the Foundation Aid formula must be updated to make sure that every student, especially those in high-need districts, gets the resources they need to thrive. We're calling for additional support for our schools to address the needs of students experiencing housing instability and English language needs, as well as a fairer use of the regional cost index to ensure funding is distributed more equitably based on the cost of living in different parts of the state. At the same time, New York's tax system needs an overhaul. Billionaires, multi-millionaires, and highly profitable corporations aren't paying their fair share, leaving working class New Yorkers to bear the burden. If we make sure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share, we can expect deeper investments in our public schools, affordable housing, health care, public transportation, and so much more.
