Hi Ashley,
Today, Governor Kathy Hochul has the opportunity to turn the page on the corruption and negligence of the Cuomo administration. Add your name to our petition demanding that she show with real action, on her first day, that she will prioritize the families and children of our state.
It is going to take more than words for Governor Hochul to distance herself from the harm of the previous administration. As lieutenant governor, Hochul was complicit in the austerity policies and rhetoric that caused immeasurable harm to Black and Brown communities, at times even leading the charge herself, as in her fight against undocumented people getting licenses.
With Governor Hochul now at the helm, New York's people and communities cannot and will not accept more of the same. The historic significance of our first woman governor will not absolve her if she continues to push the same problematic policies that cause real harm to families and children. Sign our petition telling Governor Hochul that she must take substantive actions that will begin to right the wrongs of Cuomo's policies.
We demand a governor that is committed to education justice and supports a policy agenda that prioritizes children and their needs. Governor Hochul is taking office after 10 years of educational neglect, especially in communities of color. She must begin work immediately to show that New York's children are a priority, from childcare through k-12, starting with the following:
Make new and robust investments in child care
Make pre-K truly universal statewide
Uphold New York's commitment to the remaining phase-in of Campaign for Fiscal Equity funding for public schools
Help end the school to prison pipeline but supporting the Solutions, Not Suspensions bill
We will not accept the same policies that have a decade-long track record of hurting our communities, and we will continue to call out all elected leaders who abuse their power and that do not prioritize serving the needs of New Yorkers and our communities. Add your name now to demand that Governor Hochul prioritize the families and children of our state from day one.
In solidarity,
Jasmine Gripper
