Hi Ashley,

Join us tomorrow, March 14th for an emergency Call Relay for Child Care! We will generate calls to New York State leaders, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie offices every 15 minutes urging them to include $1.2 billion for the child care workforce and $60 million to ensure all children are included regardless of their immigration status in their one-house

Sign up for a shift on March 14 to call state leaders!

The details

Who you're calling

  • Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (518) 455-2585
  • Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (518) 455-3791

Why you're calling

Governor Hochul's proposal for child care only includes a small fraction of what New York's families and providers need — so it is critical that the State Senate and the Assembly proposals provide a strong counterpoint to the Governor. We need the one-house proposals to include $1.2 billion for the child care workforce and $60 million to ensure all children are included regardless of their immigration status.

When you're calling

Wednesday, March 14. Sign up for a time here.

What is a call relay?

You will be making two phone calls on Wednesday: one to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and one to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. Similar to a phone bank, we will provide you with the phone numbers and script. The difference is that we're asking participants to sign up to make calls during specific time slots throughout the day, so we can keep the Majority Leader and Speaker's phones ringing all day for maximum impact — a "relay!" Please note that even though we have created 15 minute time slots, you should only need about 5 minutes to make your two calls.

Scripts

For Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins:

(518) 455-2585

"My name is _________ and I am a (parent/ provider/community member) calling from (your town).

I'm calling to ask the Majority Leader to invest in universal child care in the Senate One-House Budget, including $1.2 billion for the child care workforce and $60 million to ensure all children are included regardless of their immigration status.

Child care providers earn less than 97% of occupations in New York and are not included in the Human Services COLA. Without direct investment in this workforce, we cannot have enough child care for all of New York's families who rely on it. New York's children and families are counting on you. Thank you."

For Speaker Carl Heastie:

518-455-3791

I'm calling to ask the Speaker to invest in universal child care in the Assembly One-House Budget, including $1.2 billion for the child care workforce and $60 million to ensure all children are included regardless of their immigration status.
