GLENS FALLS, NY — U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made his 27th visit to Glens Falls, his 36th to Warren County, with a very clear mission in mind— to announce new legislation to counter the recent cuts made to Social Security. Along with being the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act, it was also National Save Social Security Day. During his visit to the Glens Falls Senior Center, Schumer, a Democrat, noted that he believed Social Security to be one of the most popular government programs ever, which is why he believes what the current administration is doing […]

HORSE RACING: Andrew Champagne's bankroll, selections, analysis

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — BANKROLL BANKROLL: $819.50 Kudos to the trainers who took part in Saturday's fundraiser for the Lustgarten Foundation. It featured horsepeople taking time out of their insanely-busy schedules to sign autographs for fans, with proceeds going to a foundation that aims to advance research pertaining to pancreatic cancer. The fundraiser was in honor of longtime trainer Dominic Galluscio, who passed away in 2014. However, it could've easily been for any number of people whose battles with the disease are all too familiar to so many folks out there. (We all miss you, Jarboe.) SATURDAY'S RESULTS: On a […]

Bobrovsky a breakaway star in $150K Skidmore

By Keith McCalmont SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Bobrovsky saved his best for last, rallying past pacesetter Monster to capture Saturday's $150,000 Skidmore, a 5 1/2-furlong Mellon turf sprint for 2-year-olds, at Saratoga Race Course. Trained and co-owned by Dale Romans with Steve Berg, the Daredevil colt made his turf and stakes debut a winning one under Junior Alvarado. The talented bay, named for goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who backstopped the Florida Panthers to Stanley Cup championships in 2024-25, stalked Monster through splits of 21.85 seconds and 44.54 to the half-mile. Bobrovsky loomed large as the field straightened away with Monster on […]

Siobhan Connally's Ittybits & Pieces: Undoing

What will you do with yourself? I don't know if she had asked the question I was trying to answer, but I found myself drilling down into some complicated feelings about the space left over once my youngest child goes off to college. My mother-in-law is a sharp lady; she knows this would be a question for me and not her son. But I feel sharp, too. In all the wrong ways, perhaps. All edges and elbows. She shared her experiences and gave a tidbit of good advice: " Reclaim something you had to give up." I hate how it […]
