The voucher scheme offers donors a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for donations to “scholarship granting organizations” specifically for private schools. Rhode Island, Vermont, Minnesota, Oregon and other states have already recognized the harm it would cause and are refusing to participate. New York should follow their lead and keep public dollars in public schools.
