The Senate and Assembly put forward their one house budget proposals today, heating up the final stretch of the fight for New York's budget – leaving us just twenty days to push for what our communities need. Both houses recognized that New York must raise revenue to protect communities and invest in the services we rely on, and the Senate proposed $500 million to boost wages for the child care workforce. State leaders must now make sure the final enacted budget delivers no less than that investment. Every call and email they get from New Yorkers will shape what stays in the final budget and what gets left out.
Today, more than a thousand New Yorkers are at the Capitol showing what collective power looks like in action. We're pressing Governor Hochul to stop prioritizing the ultra-wealthy while everyday people struggle to afford child care and simply stay afloat. Alongside climate, economic, and immigrant justice advocates we are demanding that New York tax the rich and invest in working families.
