DEC: Be prepared for spring bears

Bears are already becoming active with the recent warm weather.  As bird feeders can be an attractant to hungry spring bears, now would be a good time to take down winter bird feeders to avoid possible conflicts. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recommends winter bird feeders be taken down annually by April 1, as bear activity rapidly increases by the end of March.
