TROY, N.Y. —  Saratoga Catholic Central varsity baseball head coach Alphonse Lambert has been with senior pitcher Pierce Byrne since he was in seventh grade. Way back then, Lambert told Byrne that he had no “pension plan” for him, but that by becoming a valued member of the Saints, Byrne would be rewarded with championships. And on Wednesday at Joseph L. HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: Shen hires Platek as boys varsity head coach

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — On Tuesday evening, the Shenendehowa Board of Education appointed Andrew Platek as the new varsity boys’ basketball coach. Platek replaced former coach Paul Yattaw, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Andrew started his career playing for one of Shen’s Suburban Council opponents, Guilderland. He then went on to play Division I college basketball at the University of North Carolina under the leadership of Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams.
