Day 2: Make a call for NY's students!

AQE_logo

Hi Ashley,

With six days to go until New York's state budget deadline, New York’s students, families and educators are depending on the New York State Senate and Assembly to stay strong in budget negotiations. With a veto-proof majority in both the Assembly and Senate, we must urge our State Legislators to fight to raise $7 billion in revenue and fully fund our schools in the final budget. For our second day of action, take the following two actions with us! We need you to help make a final push for New York State to fulfill its decades-old promise to our public school students!

DAY TWO

Option 1: Call Senators Kaminsky & Thomas

Some State Legislators still are fighting to put the profits of the ultra wealthy over the needs of the rest of us. Two such influential Legislators are Senators Todd Kaminsky and Kevin Thomas,  from the regional delegation from Long Island.

For students in all of our communities to get what they need, it is going to take all of our elected representatives acting together. These Senators' actions in the state budget will impact children from Buffalo to the Hudson Valley, Utica to New York City, the North Country to the Southern Tier.

Use the script below and make a call now!

Senator Kaminsky: 518-455-3401

Senator Thomas: 516-739-1700

Script

Hi, my name is ______ and I'm a [parent, teacher, activist ]. For years, New York State has refused to fully fund our schools.

I am calling to let Senator ____ [Kaminsky/Thomas]___ know that we need him to fight to ensure the final budget includes not a penny less than what's in the Senate one-house budget proposal for education.

We need to protect students, not billionaires!

Once you're done making your calls, check out the bonus action below.

Option 2: Send an email in support of child care

As part of the federal stimulus packages, New York will receive a combined total of $2.3 billion in child care stimulus funds — nearly three times the State’s annual child care subsidy budget.

New York must invest these funds in the ways we know will help families and the child care sector now. And the New York Legislature, whose members are informed and directly accountable to the employers, providers and families impacted, must have oversight power in order to ensure this unprecedented amount of funding is handled and distributed effectively.

Watch for tomorrow's email with our next way to take action. You can sign up for updates on the Week of Action here.
