Health department encourages sun safety for UV Awareness Month

NEW YORK — The New York State Department of Health (DoH) is offering New Yorkers skin safety advice during July, which is Ultraviolet (UV) Awareness Month. Practicing skin safety should be done year-round, especially because UV radiation, which causes skin cancer, does not only come from the sun. Common sources include tanning beds and sunlamps. Ultraviolet radiation is present throughout the year, no matter what the weather, and clouds do not offer protection from UV rays from the sun.
